He married Margaret Dawson, daughter of Herbert Dawson and Jane Cruddace, on 24 December 1949 in Easington, Co Durham. Harold Outhwaite died on 9 March 2001 in Memorial Hospital, Darlington, Co Durham, at age 77. Harold died of pulmonary embolism & liver cancer. He was cremated on 13 March 2001 in Darlington Crematorium, Darlington, Co Durham.
